Feb 10 article is finally up, after all that mess with the lousy server :-)
Nice article, Maggie. Last year I had some lovely purple crocus, variety unknown to me a year later...ugh! They appear to have multiplied, and so far there is lots of foliage, but no blooms yet. Will keep you posted on developments, if any. Nice touch with the little hedgehog.
Yes I like the hedgehog photo, but he is tiny, was that taken a while ago? Would you believe the yellow Dutch are the ones I have trouble with, they are the ones that don't set seed, just multiply naturally by corm division. The chrysanthas may be worth a try if the tommies do well. I noticed Ajuga in one of the photos, a lover of cool damp shade if ever there was one, good work Maggie.
Take a pic for us Caro, if they do open this year.
Photo taken a few days ago Terry, but you are right, Miss Holly has lost her round figure, having hibernated all winter without waking up to eat occasionally, as they once did. I am wondering if it is from old age, as her parents were that way in their last years too. She is the last of the family, going on 8 yrs old now. I have been waking her up to feed her, in hopes of fattening her up and as an excuse to visit with her more often. You could prob tell me more about all this - let's E talk on it.
I wonder if the Dutch yellow is sterile? The alt tag just won't stick on that white crocus pic - I'll have Lars look into it. It's meant to read C. chrysanthus 'Snowbunting'.
That's the 'Purpurea' ajuga which does well here, but I wish that gorgeous tri-color 'Burgundy Glow' would be as trouble-free. It seems to want more moisture than the green and burgundy ones available here and the pill bugs and slugs chew on it, but not the dark one. I love the blue blooms - wish they would stick around longer. Is ajuga still called 'bugle' in England?
Sorry give Holly my apologies for getting her sex wrong. I never realised before how tiny she is. You are correct about the Dutch Yellow, it is sterile and Ajuga is more usually known as Ajuga these days mainly due to the gardening progs on TV. I thought that white one was a chrysantha, but didn't want to get caught out if I was wrong.
I tried to establish the white Tommy but it must have crossed with the lilac ones and crowded out the original. I may try it again later in isolation.
Sorry to bore you with more of my lingo stories, but... I had to stop calling ajuga 'bugle weed', cause the name is not used here at all. See, it would easily offend folks if I referred to a plant in their garden as a 'something weed'. Then there's all those house painters that I used to say 'emulsion paint' to. When I found out it didn't translate here - I suddenly realized that none of them had ever admitted that they didn't know what I was talking about ! Don't know if they thought I knew more than them or if they just decided I was too daft to bother with :-0
Back to the point ;) I've used this pic before, but its the only one I have handy with that gorgeous 'Burgundy Glow' on it. Is it available there, and if so, I'm wondering if it would it be a short-lived morsel for your monster slugs, since my bugs are so fond of it.
It doesn't last long, I just have the purple and green one, think I have enough of that for it to survive the onslaught. Once again I love your little display, you certainly have a way with colours, Maggie.
I tried to post a new topic on Gails February advice but it doesn't seem to have gone, so here it is again:-
Thank you, Gail, for reminding me how much I still have to get done I had never before heard about pruning the Wisteria roots to encourage flowers, but after 20 years mine seems to manage without me having to dig down.
Thanks Terry for the above In lieu of painting and sculpting outlets, the garden/site becomes the victim. Bit like Gertie resorted to too, huh?
I have transferred your note to Gail onto her page. Wish I knew why yours didn't stick. Everyone, Pls let me know whenever that happens so we can fix/amend it.
It probably is mad at me cause I haven't been on line for over a week!
What! Gail, you mean Maggie lets you get away with that? ;-)
Good to see it working just fine today.
Hey Terry, you rattled her cage by opening her thread ;-)
So here's a Boquet, bouquet, bokay for yous.
Maggie, are those pansies in your yard right now? I love 'em! I was lazy/preoccupied this year and didn't get any put out so consequently the bare spots in my garden right now are buggin' me!
Just picked um Gail - you can come pick some here, since you didn't get any in this year! There are some pansies blooming their heads off right now, after all that rain and warm spell.
These are tiny viola tricolors rather than the big wittrockiana pansies,, sorry I got the pic so big !
plus yel crocus and the solid purple is perennial Viola odorata. Daffs, magnolia, forsythia, jonquils and more are opening in the garden right now - Cheers me up to no end.
Maggie! you have flowers, real flowers...Thank you for the bucket!! of spring sunshine.
That's bookay to you Terence ;-)
That's Terence to you Mrs. Bucket.

My editing functions allow me to keep up my spelling appearances. Now if I just had the time to go back and fix all the other socially unacceptables.
Now surely Hyacinth, you can't possibly have socially unacceptables, and besides it's not polite to refer to your guests in that way.
No no,,,, my unexceptable spelligns !
Now we are really going somewhere with this tread.......Socially Unacceptables!!! I have been called other things.....but never that one......
That's it David you wind her up as well
