Maggies Garden Forum: Come Stroll Articles: December 2002

The recent forecasted freezes haven't yet found some of the niches in my garden, so it is not quite desolate out there - yet.

Some roses are still giving bloom
roses
and the Acer has been magnificent this month.

I have posted more pics on the Come Stroll page.

Ohhhhh the acer is beautiful, especially against the white wall. I knew your gardens had color way longer than mine, but never guessed there was so much variety and color still in December.

As usual, my color scheme this month is White on White. More snow expected tonight and tomorrow :)

It was 60 sumthin degrees here today MK
amazing isn't it ?!

Looking forward to seeing your beautiful snow. Its kinda like having grandkids - we can enjoy the beauty of it without dealing with its difficult realities :)

Well Maggie, you'll have to wait a few more days for the snow. We had shirt sleeve weather here today too. I didn't look at the thermometer - too busy outside :) But there WILL be more snow.

Its been balmy here too MK. But have been promised cold and rain for Christmas eve. Just think, if it gets cold enough, that rain could come down white. Very unlikely odds tho. Wonder when the last time NC Tex had a white xmas. Probably 50 yrs or more. See why we look forward to getting one here on the forum :)

Our Family travelled to Fort Worth in a blizard at Christmas time in about 1976. There was snow on the ground just East of Burleson where my sister was living at the time.

We are forcast to start having a heavy snowstorm tonight here in Amarillo (yes, that is in Texas, in the forgotten portion we call the Panhandle).

Glad to have you join us again James - thought you had forgotten *us* :)

I was living in East Texas in 76 - bet we didn't get a white one that year over there :( or I prob would have remembered it (one hopes) :-}

I've been watching your weather on the forecasts - big white patches over the panhandle on the visuals. It's been precipitating here for two days, but only the liquid kind. Due to turn colder tomorrow, but of course with clear skies by then. Rotten timing.

Share some more of your lovely white Christmas pics with us again this year... I'll find and open your thread for it.

OMG Maggie, fancy having to come here, nothing in the last week. What is wrong with your gardening fans???? :)
I am jealous of your December garden, but I did have one flower on my Forsythia, which must be a first.
Very mild this winter in England, and very wet. Still the Cyclamen coum puts on a restrained show amongst the rotting leaves, and the snowdrops are threatening to take away the winter gloom.
Spring is but a blossom away as are the blue skys and longer days.
We gardeners are a funny lot, we cry when it rains if it's not wanted, but rejoice if we have a sunny spot. ( Texas gardeners cry in the sunshine and rejoice in the rain...strange people these Americans)

Maybe it is a case of ‘they come, they look, they don’t post’ ;-)
Or perhaps, everyone has lost interest since you deserted us for your latest project :)
Oooor it could be because we have also been having beautiful gardening weather down here too. Yesterday – 70F ! and it is expected to be near that for much of the week. I should be out there myself right now, taking advantage of these glory days. :)

In fact, my token snowdrops have probably been melting in this January heat wave. Oooo please send us a lovely pic of your meandering snowdrop masses xoxoxo

Just learned about your site today and am enjoying
it. I'm in Krum, Texas and like you had wonderful
rose blooms in Dec. Would love to know the
names of the ones in the photo.

Hi Plant Lady – lovely to hear from you.
The roses in above pic are Cecile Brunner, Perdita, Mrs. Dudley Cross, and buds of Maggie.

Belinda’s Dream, Graham Thomas, Pinkie Climber
and Souvenir de la Malmaison (and prob some others) were also still in bloom, but not in the bouquet.

Which ones were blooming for you in December?
