Clematis can grow in Texas when they are sited in the right Location, Location, Location
I finally found a Clem Utopia in this rock-infested caliche yard
I enjoyed your article on growing clematis. It was very informative.
Thanks Caro, I knew you have had great interest in them and am glad to hear from you about the article Makes it worth while doing
OK Maggie, how come you can grow Madame Correvon, when I am on my third try? As is usaully the case she is the one above all others that I wanted, I love the open flowers and the shade of wine. Perhaps I need new chat up lines to try and persuade her to stay.
Good article, sorry I took so long to get around to it, but the sun is shining and it's warm here, a rare treat not to be missed.
You hit the nail on the head about the root cover Maggie, they have extensive root runs and a rock or shrub at the base of the stem is nowhere near enough cover.
Oh Terry, you are really going to enjoy my next 'Garden Goofs' - its about Madame Correvon,,, :-)
After seeing it, you may decide to get more brute with yours, instead of chatting her up!
Glad to hear about your decent weather !! Summer is trying to arrive here. It was 96* Sun, then nice and cool today. Wish I could have been in the garden all day,, hope Nicola is having some lovely sunny time over there, in her garden too.
Nicola must be, it's just great here, perfect growing weather. I never chat em up Maggie, don't have any good lines. I stopped at How's it growing.....lol
I just checked the bed by the arbour and I am growing two Madame Julia Correvon both of which look as if they are going to flower reasonably well this year. I feed my clematis tons of chicken manure and water in Sulphate of Potash to encourage flowering. You will just have to take her out to dinner more Terry if you want her to hang around. Another lovely clematis in the same colour range is Mrs N Thompson which is in flower now.
Nicola - maybe they will be in bloom in time to try out that new digi cam on your clems!!!
and I know what you mean about them being hungry ladies
My soil is short on phosphate, so I used to add rock phosphate to the compost pile and more recently have been able to acquire colloidal phosphate, which can be sprinkled directly on the beds. The rock form has to be 'processed' by the microbes before the plants can absorb it. Clems seem to want as much food as roses in this soil.
Don't talk to me about the digi cam. The whole lot has been taken back to Selfridges because it is not compatable with Win 95, one day I will get around to researching which one to buy but till then I have a film card that I can't download!!
My camera works fine with both win95 and win98 Nicola,I would have thought they all would. I believe the drivers for most of them are fairly basic.
Perhaps I should grow the lady in question in the chicken pen then she can eat as much as she likes all day long. I wouldn't have been so attracted to her, if I'd known she had expensive tastes.
Ter, you could always shovel the droppings up and serve um to her on a silver platter. The royal treatment might just do the trick ;-)
Nic, I have consulted the guru and am sending Lars suggestions to you by Email. Fingers crossed!
