After our White Christmas here at C R Farm we had a quick warm spell and the waters rose.

New Year's Day

But never fear, 1 week later we have 10 inches or so of snow again. The deer are now coming in 2 x a day to be fed. Walking through the snow sure can wear me out :)

deer and garden

Hope everyone is having a great beginning to the new year!

Where have I been? Just busy with some remodeling projects in the house. It takes me forever to get them done. Too bad I don't get paid by the hour. Then too it takes longer and more energy to feed and water the animals in the snow and cold.

Sending you some snow by way of the wonderful web

Such pretty weather pics MK. Ten inches !!! It must be so beautiful up there in the mountains..so quiet and peaceful.

We have had 70* day temps lately, with the night time lows only dropping to what our January highs normally are - around 50*. Very weird. Roses are still making buds, that eventually get frozen in one night freezes.
Ooooh,,, the snow link won’t happen for me MK. Pls send it by email to see if I can apply it from here.

Those deer sure have you well trained ;-)
I wonder what they ate twice a day during heavy snowfalls before they found your buffet? I bet you’ve been serving them steaming hot chow, to warm them up teehee.

I’m curious about your remodeling projects, and remembering the bathroom plumbing and tile that you tackled last winter.
There’s just no stopping some gardeners – we just like improving our surrounds - even when snowbound, huh? :)

The deer in front of the snowy house – you should sell it to Hallmark :)
Loved seeing the dogs and sheep tucked up warm and cozy. I used to wish I had grandkids – am now thinking I’d rather be yours instead ;-) xoxoxoxoxox

Our 2nd round of white for the year has had the freeways become death traps. It looks like a little bit, but the bridges and hills are absolutely un-useable without tire chains, which no one down here keeps on hand. And its lasted two days, which is longer than it usually lasts. I haven't been out in it, but I lean out the windows to check on the beds :-)

What nice winter appeal! That's what I'm working on now for my gardens. I've started some ornamental grasses to add this season. And ordered more shrubs. I still go for the decidious shrubs, since the deer feast on any that stay green through the winter.

Maggie, did you know that each of your garden pictures gives me the feeling that I'm walking through a HUGE country estate of acres and acres? :-)

Isn't it an awful feeling knowing you can't get out, even if you had no plans of going out anyways? During our ice storm we couldn't get the truck our for 5 days. This storm we were sure to park the truck differently! But so far, no ice, just very wet slushy snow.

MK, I loved hearing your comment - you would enjoy my slide program about how features from classical estate gardens are wonderful to use in home-size gardens. I illustrate the garden history stories with my pics of features in English and American gardens. It is so fun to give because the audiences seem to enjoy it so much and I get to do what I enjoy the most - talk about garden history and design (I should pay them for listening to me :-)

David - yesss I know what you mean. We went to the Bass last night and everyone we spoke to was feeling the same... so good to get out again. The 3 Irish Tenors were there - good fun.

Did you have a speaker last night?
