I just have to say it somewhere -
First, I don't write the titles to my newspaper articles.
Next, I must credit my editors for always saving my bloomers on typos and such.
But I have to complain somewhere,,, that I do not get a chance to proof their editing, which should be allowed for the sake of hort accuracy.
This is to explain why a mallow pic (not mine) was published last month with the word 'hollyhock' under it. And why the Tagetes size of 2'-4' was changed to 2-4 inches last week.
They promise me retractions, but nadda.
Whew , that feels better.
I sure hope it makes you feel better.....I know it makes me feel better all ready!!!!!!!!
Thanks David, misery really does love company
In today's article on the 'Belinda's Dream' rose, I wrote that the way I deal with black spot in my garden is to remove ALL the leaves after the initial spring bloom. This instigates the bush to produce a whole new set of healthy leaves - sans black spot. This works wonders. Most sources tell to remove just the diseased leaves, which is probably why some editor decided to change what I wrote. Lot of good it does to keep repeating the old, instead of reporting a better new way.
And I have no idea why someone used the subtitle from my last article instead of a new one about this weeks subject. :-0
Sounds like it's time to leave a few footprints and go over someone's head to get final editing rights. You deserve to have your articles printed accurately.
Dear Maggie,
where can i buy belinda's dream rose bushes....also do you know where i can purchase the blue roses ?
I have had more requests for that info than for any other from this year's columns, so it would be a good thing to post some resources here. Thanks for asking on the forum Natalie.
I don’t know your location, so I'll list a wide geo range of Metroplex nurseries to try.
If they are out at the mo, the customer-oriented ones will get it in for you. Same for the blue roses. Of Sterling Silver, Blue Girl and Blue Moon, two Blue Moons did best for me, even in a very inhospitable sight for hybrid roses – not much full sun and in an over-crowded bed. If you have to mailorder, Jackson and Perkins often offers some blue ones.
Most nurseries sold out of Belinda’s Dream when the column ran, but should be restocked by now.

In case anyone is wondering what in the world that pic was in my column today -- its not what I sent in. Well, its a piece of what I sent. Here is what it was supposed to be..
What a bunch of lost souls there are in the world.

Regarding today's column in ST newspaper on espaliered fruit trees, it has an extra comma in it that I didn't put there. The erroneous comma turns the pineapple guava tree into a pineapple tree and a guava tree. Its one thing to be edited by a nongardener, but surely most people would know pineapples don’t grow on trees. You’d think. :-)
