I had a wonderful time in your garden today Terry, as always. So many beauties, photo-ed so well. I was surprized to see the Aucuba is hardy for you. Love that pale fushia. I only knew of the dark pink one to be hardy. Are there many other hardy varieties? About that Schizostylis coccinea - I'm going to look that one up!

With the fuchsia's Maggie, it depends what you mean by hardy. We now have fuchsia bushes in Yorkshire that twenty years ago you would only have seen in the South of the country. Not many of the larger flowered ones will survive our winters out doors, but I have one that has been with me for for many years. It always gets cut down to ground level but then shoots back up again. This used to be the case even with the small flowered tough ones, but now they tend to keep their top growth through most winters.
