Enjoyed your August pages Terry
I am wondering if your white flowered mystery Clematis is one that is commonly known here as 'sweet autumn clematis'. I found 4 different Latin names for it if you want them (don't ya love it ;-)
It blooms only once a year - now. Usually has a great fragrance, but not in my garden for some reason. I even bought a 2nd one from another source, planted it in a front bed (other is in the back), but still no scent. very strange. It has naturalized so well here, that many think of it as a native.
Loved seeing your gorgeous fuchsias and white cactus bloom. The geranium is terriff. It's white center is reminiscent of an auricula's white paste.
How did you get mamma guinea pig to pose so well. I think she was 'talking' to the camera!
Here is a pic of our Sweet Autumn Clem. The most commonly used Latin for it is C. paniculata
It finished its large flush of bloom here about a week ago, but there are a few flowers still hangin on.
Maggie, should this one be cut back in the fall, or any other special seasonal care?
Since it can cover like kudsu if not pruned, and because it blooms on new wood, most folks like to cut it down to the ground in winter, when it is dormant. I've done it every year with good results. Some yrs , I've tied the new shoots to the oak tree trunk and let it scramble up there all summer. In the back garden, it grabs onto anything within reach and finally lumps onto the top of a wood fence. It's the toughest clemmie we can grow, just wish it would bloom more than once a yr.
Same one as mine Maggie, I think Nicola thought it was C. flamula, but I can't find a pic of that or C. paniculata in my books. You mean I took out my C. montana and then planted something just as vigorous in it's place? Better get the shears out.
Oops, don't blame the messenger ;-)
Now I wish someone would tell me what I have here (even tho the blooms are out of focus!)
Got me beat Maggie.
